Cuba’s Council of State examined the implementation of the government program to correct distortions and boost the economy during a regular session in the presence of President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero presented a detailed update on the government strategy and the impact of the measures, while emphasizing the importance of consolidating work systems at the municipal level to advance on the issues that most impact the population.

Marrero elaborated on the program’s objectives related to macroeconomic stabilization, increasing and diversifying the country’s external income, strengthening national production, with an emphasis on food, among other priorities.

According to the Cuban Parliament’s website, the debate revealed that the implemented work system allows for a higher level of progress, and that favorable results have been achieved in the State Budget compared to what was planned for the period.

President of the Council of State Esteban Lazo emphasized that the Government Program “constitutes a guide for the country’s work, which demands comprehensiveness, rigor, and preparation, with an emphasis on the municipality as a fundamental link in territorial development.”

During the regular session, the President of the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power, Félix Martínez, shared the results of the monitoring of compliance with Agreement X-97 of the supreme body of state power, related to the government strategy.

According to Martínez, the meeting was beneficial for delving deeper into the causes that are limiting the country’s economic progress, exchanging proposals, and learning about the actions that need to be implemented to improve results by the end of the first half of the year.

The Minister of Finance and Prices, Vladimir Regueiro, and the head of the National Tax Administration Office, Mary Blanca Ortega, updated the members of the agency on compliance with Law 174 “On the State Budget for the Year 2025” and the measures to reduce the deficit or increase the fiscal surplus.
