America Movil’s combined Central American units, operating under the Claro brand, reported first-quarter revenues down 4.5 percent year on year to USD 583 million, due to an 18.2 percent slump in equipment sales attributed in part to curfew measures in some territories and a 2.1 percent fall in mobile service revenues. Regional EBITDA also declined, by 3.1 percent year on year, to USD 219 million, while the EBITDA margin inched up 0.5 percentage points to 37.5 percent of revenues.
Total mobile subscribers came to 15.47 million at the end of March, down 2.3 percent year on year on account of a 3.1 percent fall in prepay lines, although postpaid customers were up 1.4 percent to 2.55 million. In the fixed-line segment, the company reached a total of 4.41 million RGUs at the end of Q1, up 0.3 percent year on year.
