Mexicana has returned to the skies 13 years after halting operations.

The new Mexicana, which is operated by the Mexican army, launched on Tuesday with an inaugural flight from its base at Mexico City’s Felipe Angeles Airport to the new Tulum Airport. The army also operates Felipe Angeles, Mexico City’s secondary airport.

The all-domestic airline is also selling tickets for flights from Felipe Angeles to Campeche, Mazatlan, Monterrey, and Tijuana. Flights from Felipe Angeles to Merida, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Acapulco, Ixtapa, Ciudad Victoria, Villahermosa, Palenque and Chetumal are planned.

The new Mexicana is using the same green-and-white livery that the privately owned Mexicana used.

Tuesday’s inaugural flight was operated with a Boeing 737-800. Mexicana expects to receive a second 737-800 shortly, has taken delivery of one 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145 regional jet, and has another ERJ-145 on order, according to Planespotters.net.
