The Government of Mexico has presented its new state airline, Mexicana de Aviación. Tickets go on sale in September. The airline will increase connectivity and coverage of air services in the country through passenger, cargo and mail transport, the government reported Thursday.

The Government says the new airline, legally named Aerolínea del Estado Mexicano SA de CV, will represent another engine of growth and development for the country.

On Thursday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador unveiled details of the new airline in a morning press conference with Luis Cresencio Sandoval González of the Ministry of National Defense.

According to Sandoval’s report, the airline will offer only a single class seating, making ticket costs accessible for everyone. He says they estimate their airline tickets will be 18 to 20 percent lower than other airlines.

Sandoval said the price reduction is due to the use of public infrastructure that the Government of Mexico has consolidated, such as the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), which will be the main base of the new airline.

The upcoming Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum will serve as a secondary base for the new Mexicana de Aviación airline, he explained Thursday morning.

Mexicana de Aviación will offer travelers a choice form 20 destinations from AIFA that include Cancun, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Campeche, Chetumal, Mérida, Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Cozumel, Los Cabos, Hermosillo, Ciudad Juárez, Villahermosa, Huatulco, Oaxaca, Acapulco, Mazatlán, La Paz and Leon.

Simultaneously, the federal government promotes the strengthening of the airport infrastructure of Apodaca, Tulum, Ciudad Ixtepec, Ciudad Victoria, Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad del Carmen, Ciudad Obregón, Loreto, Palenque, Nogales, Puebla, Tamuín, Uruapan, Matamoros, Colima and Guaymas.

Tickets for the country’s new airline are set for sale sometime in September. The planes used will be Boeing 737-800 180-passenger capacity planes with a pilot, a co-pilot and four flight attendants.

Sandoval says Sedena will initially lease 10 new generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft of which three will be delivered on September 30 and the remaining seven on October 30.

He reported that the new airline has already created 209 direct jobs, however, a total of 745 people are expected to be employed. The initial investment for Mexicana de Aviación is 4 billion pesos.

According to Sandoval, it includes the rental of aircraft, maintenance, fuel, rental of destination real estate, ground support equipment and company equipment.
