Neymar Jr. Suffers Injury, Rules Out of Copa America. Brazilian player Neymar Jr. will not play Copa America due to a severe injury that prevents him to recover in time to participate in the tournament, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) informed. The 27-year-old striker left Wednesday night the field of the Mane Garrincha National Stadium in Brasilia in the 17th minute of the friendly match against Qatar after twisting his right ankle on a ball with Qatari Assim Madibo. Brazil defeated 2-0 the Arab country. The CBF note states that after suffering the ankle injury during the match against Qatar, ‘Neymar Jr. was assessed and underwent scans that confirm a ligament rupture in the ankle.’ The Confederation emphasizes that due to the seriousness of the injury, Neymar Jr. ‘will not be in physical condition nor has enough recovery time to participate at Copa America Brasil 2019.’ As of this Thursday, ‘the technical committee of the Brazilian team will decide who will replace Neymar Jr.,’ the confederation states.
