The new permanent representative of Mexico to the Organization of American States (OAS), Luz Elena Baños Rivas, recently presented to the secretary-general the credentials that accredit her to the hemispheric institution.
At the ceremony, which took place at the OAS headquarters in Washington DC, the Mexican diplomat spoke about the priorities of the international policy of the government she represents and highlighted that, for Mexico “multilateralism, of which we have a strong vocation and a great prestige, serves to seek better living conditions for our people.
In that sense, for Mexico the OAS represents an immense opportunity to reconcile and strengthen all the hemispheric agendas and to realign the priorities of our work, putting people at the center of our concerns and our work.”
Secretary-general Almagro highlighted the work and experience of ambassador Baños Rivas in the Foreign Service and commented that “her special knowledge of the Caribbean and Central America will be an additional impulse for the development of the activity she officially undertakes from this moment forward.”
He added that since he assumed as secretary-general, “we proposed to implement the slogan: “more rights for more people.” We share this issue, like many others, with the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.”
