Nicaraguan Government Frees 50 Inmates Associated with Violent Acts
The Nicaraguan government announced Friday that it has released 50 people from prison for violent acts associated with the socio-political crisis that began on April 18, 2018.
A press release from the Interior Ministry released in the early hours of Friday reported that, through the General Directorate of the National Penitentiary System, complied with 50 release orders. The document states that such a provision favors ‘persons who were detained for having committed crimes against common security and public tranquility’.
It clarifies that these persons received the legal benefit of family cohabitation or other precautionary measures. The text details the list of the 50 released, which includes the number of their identification document.
The sides, to carry out the process of releasing the detainees, issued a formal invitation to the International Committee of the Red Cross to accompany and ensure compliance with the standards required for the matter.
