It is supported by 64% of citizens, according to a survey by Buendía & Márquez for EL UNIVERSAL.

The work of Andrés Manuel López Obrador as President is approved by 64% of citizens, according to the most recent national survey by Buendía & Márquez for EL UNIVERSAL. This figure is slightly higher than that registered last August (62%), but the variation is within the margin of error of the survey.

The poll was conducted from November 17 to 22, that is, between four and nine days after the marches in defense of the INE that took place in several cities of the country. Thus, one of the main aspects to highlight is that the president’s approval did not deteriorate, despite the demonstrations against the electoral reform initiative that will be discussed in the coming days in the Chamber of Deputies.

Until now, the perception of the INE has transcended partisan filters. The electoral body enjoys very good evaluation by citizens, even greater than presidential approval. Like other measurements released in recent weeks, the survey shows that three out of four people (74%) have a good or very good opinion of the institute; Only 18% evaluate it negatively.

Nearly 80% of respondents identify positive action by López Obrador’s government, while only 52% can recall a negative action. Among the positive actions, the one that the President is most recognized for is his policy of social programs.

When respondents were asked what the President has done best, 56% answered something related to his social policy (either in general, or support for specific groups, such as youth or seniors), while 23% offered another answer. That is, the vast majority (70%) of those who have something good to say about the current administration think about government support.

In contrast, the worst-rated stocks are fragmented. Nearly 10% responded that the worst thing this administration has done is withdraw programs or grant them to those who don’t need them.

Economic and public safety conditions have a similar percentage (9% each). Behind them are infrastructure projects (Mayan Train, Dos Bocas refinery, etc.) and other aspects related to public health (lack of vaccines and medicines), 4% each.

There is a belief that presidential approval is fundamentally supported by the beneficiaries of social programs. Although, as we saw a few moments ago, it is a flag that is widely recognized by the government, approval is built almost equally between beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries; seven out of 10 recipients approve of the President, while six out of 10 who do not receive such benefits do the same. This means that 33 points of approval come from beneficiaries and 31 points from non-beneficiaries, for the total sum of 64%.

The survey also investigates whether the López Obrador government has undertaken actions that have directly benefited or harmed those interviewed; 43% answered that they have benefited and have not been harmed. Another 34% have not benefited or been harmed. That is, 77% feel that they have not been harmed by something that the President’s government has done.

As for the personal attributes of the President, the perception prevails that he is hardworking (81%), honest (76%), that he represents a change and that he has a simple lifestyle (66%). In all the attributes measured, López Obrador has more positive points than negatives, but the negative aspects that were most mentioned are: he has outdated ideas (44%), generally makes up the truth (43%) believe he is always right (38%) and does not comply with the laws if he considers them unfair (36%).

Finally, the survey reveals that although four years have passed since he took office, 34% consider that it is still too early to demand results from the López Obrador government. This percentage decreased considerably over the course of this year. Between February and November, the perception that it is too early to demand results decreased by 13 percentage points (47% versus 34%).
