Honduran Foreign Minister Urges US Ambassador to Rectify Her Position
Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina on Friday urged US Ambassador here, Laura Dogu, to rectify her position of meddling in internal political issues.
“On behalf of the Honduran people I demand that she rectify positions, since we received her with special respect,” Reina tweeted.
The foreign minister added that Dogu’s public intention to interfere in internal political issues and sovereign decisions compromises bilateral relations between Honduras and the United States.
According to press reports, the Honduran foreign minister reacted this way due to a tweet posted by the US ambassador, after meeting with the leader of the Savior Party of Honduras, Salvador Nasralla, whom she called “vice president.”
The US ambassador has been directly involved in internal Honduran issues on several occasions.
In August, she took a stance on the new law of the National Defense and Security Council promoted by the Honduran administration of Xiomara Castro.
She also did so in May, when she expressed her opinion against the energy reform approved at the National Congress by Castro’s initiative, a criterion refuted at that time by the minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to opinions by political analysts shared on various digital platforms, Dogu was appointed US ambassador here because of her experiences in soft coups, as she was one of those responsible for the coup attempt in Nicaragua, in April 2018. (www.plenglish.com)
