Pfizer is reportedly planning to request emergency authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine doses for children ages 5-11, Web MD reports.
The company hopes to do so in September or October of this year.
The company is currently conducting trials in children ages 6 months to 11 years old and that data will be submitted soon to the FDA.
“We are planning for emergency use authorization submission for the older age group [ages 5-11] in September or October of this year, and the younger group to follow soon thereafter,” Alejandra Gurtman, MD, Pfizer’s vice president of vaccine clinical research and development said.
The company is testing lower vaccine doses in younger age groups.
Children ages 5-11 will receive a 10-microgram dose, and those younger than 5 will receive a 3-microgram dose.
More than 4000 children in the U.S., Finland, Poland and Spain are participating in the trials.
