In a few days it will end in 2020. It has been a terrible year, whipped by a pandemic that has changed the lives of all of us, we have had to distance ourselves from our loved ones, mourn the passing of friends and family, and live with a tension like never before.
The covid-19 has generated a huge health, social and economic impact that has already claimed the lives of 1 million 75 thousand people and made more than 78 million sick.
In Central America and the Caribbean, covid-19 has caused serious damage, is expected to create the deepest recession in recent history, exposing the fragility of many countries’ political and social model, exacerbating numerous inequalities, with high unemployment, and putting our countries in a complicated scenario.
According to ECLAC data, it is estimated that GDP in Latin America and the Caribbean could decline by 9.1% by 2020, due to a significant decline in exports, declining remittances and a depression in pandemic tourism.
However, this terrible disease has also left us important teachings, brought out the best in us, and forced us to try harder, overcome difficulties, and be more supportive, bringing the best for the good of others.
In all the months of confinement the Central American and Caribbean Digital Newspaper continued to provide information to our readers, we do not hesitate for a second to keep informed about the main developments in the region, as well as continue to promote the charms that our countries have, with our eyes on a new normal that allows us to reactivate tourism and raise economic indicators , very depressed at present times.
Nevertheless, we do not want to end this year 2020 without wishing all our readers, collaborators, customers and advertisers a happy 2021, wishing them many successes in their work, a lot of solidarity and above all a lot of health, much needed in our times.
