British Airways and SunWing will resume flights to Antigua soon.

Minister of Tourism Henry Fernandez made the announcement during yesterday’s cabinet meeting.

Tourism to Antigua and Barbuda has been growing slowly with celebrities such as Ashanti taking trips to the twin-island recently.

A note from the cabinet said the large carriers have also shown an interest in LIAT serving as a regional carrier to ferry passengers from London and New York to destinations down the chain of islands.

The Administrator of LIAT, who represents the now-bankrupt airline, was invited to Wednesday’s meeting to confirm this Sunday’s flight to Dominica.

It will be LIAT’s first scheduled flight since March 2020.

LIAT is expected to provide a schedule of services to other Caribbean destinations, including the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, shortly.

Meanwhile, the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) will be invited to next Wednesday’s cabinet meeting to provide a picture of bookings and other plans to keep the country all safe from coronavirus (COVID-19).
