This winter, travelling from Detroit to two iconic destinations in the Caribbean will become much easier. Starting December 21, the airline will expand its Saturday-only service to winter seasonal daily flights, offering more connectivity between its Detroit’s Metropolitan Airport hub and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, as well as to Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republic.

The winter daily service to both Caribbean destinations provides more options for customers flying out of Detroit for business or pleasure.

“We are thrilled to be able to connect our customers in Detroit with the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Delta wants to capitalize on the surging demand to this important market and become the number one choice for Midwestern travellers when flying to Caribbean hotspots,” said Rodrigo Bértola, Director – Hispanic South America, Central America and Caribbean.

Both routes will operate with the 180-passenger Boeing 737-900 (739) with 20 seats in first class, 21 Comfort plus seats and 139 main cabin seats. Ticket sales for both routes will open May 11.

Recently, Delta expanded another service to the Caribbean with a weekly Saturday nonstop service between DTW and San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín Airport (SJU), and also upgraded to an Airbus A330-300 for the ATL-SJU service this 2019 holiday season, due to the increasing demand driven by Puerto Rico’s continuing recovery as a key business and tourism destination.

Detroit Metropolitan Airport is next in line to unveil Delta’s ground-breaking biometric terminal later this year, following Maynard H Jackson International Airport’s full curb-to-gate technology launch in Atlanta.

“Detroit has become an important gateway to connecting US travellers to the Caribbean,” added Bértola. “This Delta hub will offer more options to our clients in the region, building on our goal of providing the most convenient travel options through our powerful network.”
